You have been here before.
Not here as in this room, this chair, or this moment as you understand it. Here as in fully arrived, totally present. Nothing missing. No past pulling at you. No future pressing in.
Everpresence is the state of being so completely in this moment that everything and nothing exist at once.
It is not a destination. It cannot be earned because it was never lost. It does not require achievement, discipline, or years of meditation. It is the ground beneath every moment you have ever lived, always present, always available, waiting beneath the noise of a mind that has been trained to live everywhere except here.
The past is memory. The future is imagination. Only now is real. Everpresence is the full recognition of that, not as a concept, but as a lived experience so total that the distinction between you and the moment disappears entirely. No noise, no voice, no thought. Just pure presence.
An entire lifetime in a single second.
We were not born anxious about the future. We were not born carrying the weight of the past. We were born exactly as presence itself, with no capacity to be anywhere other than the moment we were in.
Something happened between then and now. We were taught to plan, to remember, to anticipate, to perform. We were handed devices that reward us for being everywhere except here. Two hundred and five times a day the average person reaches for a phone, each reach a small departure from the only moment that is real. We built identities from the past and anxieties from the future until the present became the one place we could not be.
The past haunted us, or left us yearning. The future became anxiety. And the now, the only place where life is actually happening, became something we are passing through to get somewhere we will never reach.
We have been chasing a feeling that was always there. We were just looking somewhere else.
The return to Everpresence is not a destination. There is nowhere to go. It is right here, as you read this. This breath. This exact second. The hand on the table. The sound behind the silence. The aliveness that has been running quietly beneath every moment you have ever lived.
It is a practice, a decision that after time becomes a state of being. It requires nothing more than letting go. Letting go of expectations, letting go of the past, letting go of the ding, the buzz, the constant pull from your phone, your work, and your future mind. As you let go, you begin to embrace what is right in front of you. You see a leaf as if for the first time. You feel the blades of grass as your feet slowly compress down on them.
In the moment, nothing else exists. Therefore everything and nothing exist at once.
The contrast between those two states, the infinite and the immediate, is what stops time. The nervous system cannot hold both at once. So it drops. Into now. Into the only thing that is real.
When you are fully here, the future loses its power to frighten you. Not because the future changes, but because you stop living in it before it arrives. The anxiety that came from projecting, rehearsing, and fearing what has not happened yet simply has nothing to attach to in the present moment.
When you are fully here, the past loses its power to define you. Not because the past changes, but because you stop dragging it forward into a moment where it does not belong.
When you are fully here, you see people differently. You look into your child’s eyes and you see them for all that they are. Perfect, present, here. Wherever you are, you are there. And in that moment a lifetime can be lived.
When you are fully here, you lead differently. You respond differently. You show up differently. You see differently, and you are seen. Everpresence is what makes real connection possible, not as a technique, but as a way of being so complete that the people around you feel it without being told.
This is what I had been searching for. I called it Chasing Saturdays.
It began with a single morning. I woke beside the woman who would become my wife, and the world was different. No stress. No reach for the phone. No problems already forming in my mind. The birds sounded different. There was simply less noise in the world. It was a Saturday, and I had never felt so completely here.
I have been finding my way back to that morning ever since. Shutting down the phone. Waking before the world starts its noise. Starting the day before the day starts me. Sitting to drink tea and fully knowing that I am drinking tea. A breath in the middle of the day, just to return. These were not habits. They were attempts to find my way back to something I already had.
Everpresence is the state that unlocks the anxiety of the future and releases the weight of the past. It does not need to be built. It does not need to be earned. It only needs to be accepted. Accepted like a gift that has been sitting on the table your whole life, wrapped, waiting, while you kept walking past it looking for something else.
The brain can be retrained. The things that pull us away from here, the devices, the noise, the identities built for other people’s approval, can be set down. Not through discipline alone, but through practice, through acceptance, through letting go. No more force. No more attainment.
You are already here. You have always been here. This moment, right now, exactly as it is, the only place you have ever actually been.
Welcome back.
